I read pretty much anything, from fantasy (City of Stairs by Robert Jackson Bennett) to romance (Bared to You by Sylvia Day) to classics (Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad). The only genres I don't read are self-help and comic books/graphic novels.
5/09 - This was very good at creating the feeling that those small sounds a house makes, especially when it's extra windy, during the night are creepy sounds rather than normal sounds. Every few minutes there'd be a weird creak and I'd freeze mid sentence, worried that there might be an intruder (or something). I was much more creeped out by Dolly than I was by The Small Hand. The idea that the dollies appearances changed and cursed the children with the same disfigurement really worked on my fears. I never liked life-like dolls with eyes, they remind me too much of those cursed ventriloquist dummies from R.L. Stine's books. This was a quick and atmospheric read perfect for a stormy night with only the light of a fire to read by (a setting which I would have enjoyed except summer decided to make an extra early appearance bringing an unseasonally warm night that wasn't conducive to crackling fires, in fact I had the overhead fan on while I slept).
