I read pretty much anything, from fantasy (City of Stairs by Robert Jackson Bennett) to romance (Bared to You by Sylvia Day) to classics (Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad).  The only genres I don't read are self-help and comic books/graphic novels.

The Dovekeepers by Alice Hoffman

The Dovekeepers - Alice Hoffman

Thoroughly enjoyed this story. It was great to finally read a book classified by others as "literary" and finally enjoy it. Most "literary" books are hard to read and require me to take frequent breaks to read lighter fare. For e.g. On Chesil Beach, it took me 6 weeks to make my way through this, reading 3 books of lighter fare in between (they each only took me a night or two to read). The Dovekeepers was unique in that it was "literary" and yet easy and fast to read. It only took me a couple of weeks to read with no breaks at all. Also the fact that it is mostly a true story. I really enjoyed reading Hoffman's note at the end about how she used real artifacts in the story to make it even more real and possible. I can imagine the main characters being real people at the time the book was set. I highly recommend this to anyone interested in history, looking for a story with strong female characters or just a really good, action packed drama.
